Daniel Willingham (Charlottesville, VA) has been a Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia since 1992. His research concerns the application of cognitive psychology to K-16 education. In addition to his work at UVA, Willingham has authored several educational books, writes a regular column called “Ask the Cognitive Scientist” for the American Federation of Teachers’ magazine, American Educator, and blogs frequently for RealClearEducation.com. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, and of the Association for Psychological Science. Most notably, he was appointed in 2017 by former President Obama to serve as a Member of the National Board for Education Sciences.
