Alyssa is a Singaporean Educator and Reading Specialist, with more than 20 years of experience in teaching children of various age groups. She has a background in Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, and Waldorf Early Childhood Education. Alyssa combines her knowledge, experience, and love for art to curate and narrate meaningful stories for children.
Alyssa questions the need to simplify language for proficient young readers, particularly those with a knack for language acquisition and effortless comprehension. She chooses to expose such readers to more complex texts, relying on the storyteller to adeptly simplify the storyline or message as needed. She believes that storytelling and children’s storybooks possess the transformative ability to surpass age-defined boundaries and that within the world of reading, there is magic to be experienced.
Alyssa is the founder of @pixiephonics, where she teaches children how to read using phonics. She is also the author of Under A Crescent Moon And Five Stars and Fold Me To The Moon. The infusion of fantasy in Alyssa’s stories deeply enhances the reader’s journey and results in a more captivating and memorable experience.
