Sharan B. Merriam is professor emerita of adult education at the University of Georgia. Her research and writing have focused on the foundations of adult education, adult learning and development, and qualitative research methods. She is the author, coauthor, or editor of more than fifteen books, including Adult Learning (2013), The Profession and Practice of Adult Education (2007), Learning in Adulthood (2006), and Qualitative Research in Practice (2002), all from Jossey-Bass. Elizabeth Tisdell is professor of education and coordinator of the doctoral program in adult education at the Penn State Harrisburg Campus. She is the author of several publications, including Financial Literacy and Adult Education: New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, No. 141 (2014) and Exploring Spirituality and Culture in Adult and Higher Education (2003), both from Jossey-Bass.
